A Unique and Unforgettable Day Trip: Discover the Secrets of Viterbo

Have you already visited Rome and want to experience a journey in the land of Etruscans, the civilization that preceded the Romans?

We offer a tailored tour in northern Latium, in the surrounding areas of Viterbo.

Viterbo attracts tourists yearly thanks to its historical heritage, which retraces the city’s rich history, particularly from the Etruscan times to the Middle Ages. Surrounded by the 12th-century walls, its Old Town looks as if it were frozen in time.

Viterbo is also famous for its wines and cuisine. Your guide will suggest the most authentic eateries and wineries where you thoroughly enjoy local food.

One of our English-speaking drivers will pick you up from the lobby of your hotel in Rome and will be at your disposal throughout the day.

Palazzo of the Popes

When Rome became too dangerous, the Popes preferred to escape to Viterbo, a nearby, rich, and above all, safe city because it was Guelph. The Palace of the Popes was therefore built between 1255 and 1266 by the Captain of the People Raniero Gatti precisely to host the Roman pontiffs who transformed Viterbo into a " Little Rome," the "City of the Popes," as it is still called today

Villa Lante

Villa Lante is a Mannerist garden of surprise in Bagnaia, Viterbo, central Italy, attributed to Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola. The gardens of the Villa Lante feature cascades, fountains, and dripping grottoes. The Villa Lante is formed by two houses, nearly identical but built by different owners in a period separated by 30 years. Each square building has a ground floor of rusticated arcades or loggias that support a piano nobile above.

Etruscan Museum of Rocca Albornoz

The National Etruscan Museum of Rocca Albornoz opened in 1986. The building that houses it was built in 1354 by Cardinal de Albornoz, Vicar General at the time, to watch over the surrounding church possessions. Rocca Albornoz’s museum displays items from the most representative settlements of inner southern Etruria. These include exceptional life-size reconstructions of buildings, Etruscan inscriptions (scarce and symbolic evidence of the Romanisation of Etruria), and a prestigious Etruscan bronze chariot.

Basilica of Santa Maria della Quercia

The Basilica of Santa Maria della Quercia in Viterbo is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, built in the late 15th century. The first stone of the Sanctuary was laid in 1467. It features a stunning portico by Giuliano Sangallo, intricate woodwork, and frescoes by local artists, with a rich history playing a key role in the spiritual and cultural life of the region.

Unveil the Wonders of Bomarzo Gardens

Dive into the surreal charm of Bomarzo Gardens, famously known as the Park of the Monsters. This one-of-a-kind Renaissance garden, crafted in the 16th century by Prince Pier Francesco Orsini, is a testament to art, nature, and mystery. Created as a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, the gardens feature enigmatic sculptures like the Ogre's Mouth and the Leaning House, alongside mythological creatures and cryptic carvings. This enchanting site offers a truly unforgettable experience, blending beauty, emotion, and imagination in every corner.
